After seeing "Minsky's: The New Musical Comedy" at the Ahmanson Theatre in February, I fell in love with theatre all over again. Minksy's takes place during the 1920's in the burlesque era. The main character, Billy Minsky is the star of the show. Minsky's goal is to bring back burlesque while the public is trying to shut his place down. His acting was close to perfection and his singing -- flawless. Rachel Dratch from Saturday Night Live (aka: Debbie Downer) also made a guest appearance. She had the audience rolling on their bellies. With her small figure and mushroom haircut, she really fit the character she portrayed in Minsky's. She had the audience in laughter in every scene she was in. I wish I could see this musical/comedy again. It ended on March 1st and I'm glad I had the opportunity to make it to the 3rd show at the Ahmanson Theatre.

My brother's former girlfriend used to love the theatre and she would always take us to see plays at the park, in the theatre, on dvd. She exposed me to a different form of art that I'll forever love. I had the opportunity to see Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre with her a few years back and I believe that was the first live performance I had ever seen in the theatre. I'm forever grateful to her for those experiences and I'll continue to go to the theatre as long as I'm able to afford it. I've always wanted to see the Lion King live, but due to a financial dismay at the time I was unable to.

The shows I'd like to see next are: Pippin, Mary Poppins, Frost/Nixon, and Home Siege Home.

Going to the theatre is a major break from reality. We need some relief once in a while.

Take a seat and enjoy the show. :)
