Before I stepped up to the podium, I gathered my thoughts, regained my strength and put my nerves to the side. Getting up off of my chair was the toughest part. Frankly, I was extremely nervous but I wanted to share with others what has worked wonders for me and my family; the power of positive thinking. It wouldn't have made any sense if I thought "I can't do this speech" if my topic focused on "I can do it." I'm up there waiting for my professor to start her watch and time me --the minimum was 5 minutes -- I think I may have done 3 minutes, but I got my point across.
Of course there are those students who choose to text, walk out early because they're done with their speeches, or decide they have to go pee in the middle of another person's nerve wrecking, speech. Rude to say the least. Instead, I smiled at them and thought "Your loss if you're not willing to gain any positive out of my topic."
Although I did something completely different than the others, and I might not have had a ton of facts to read off from, my facts were based on personal real life prosperities.
